Tucked along Highway 13 in central Alberta, the hamlet of Buck Lake sits approximately 109 kilometres southwest of Edmonton, placing it within the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10. The community rests on the shore of Buck Lake, the body of water from which it takes its name, and covers a modest land area of 1.37 square kilometres.
According to the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Buck Lake had a population of 60 residents living in 35 of its 72 total private dwellings, reflecting a population density of roughly 43.8 people per square kilometre. That figure represented a notable rebound from the 2016 census, which counted 51 residents, itself a significant decline from the 75 people recorded in the 2011 census. Of the 57 private dwellings counted in 2016, only 23 were occupied at the time, suggesting a community where seasonal or part-time use of properties is not uncommon. The modest but measurable growth between 2016 and 2021, at around 17.6 percent, points to a gradual stabilisation in the hamlet’s population after years of decline.
