Chauvin Map

Tucked into the eastern reaches of Alberta, roughly 60 kilometres east of Wainwright and just 10 kilometres from the Saskatchewan border, Chauvin sits in a quietly rural corner of east central Alberta. The village traces its origins to 1908, when it began as a railroad siding. By 1912, it had grown enough to be formally incorporated as a village. Its name honours George Von Chauvin, a railroad official connected to its early development.

According to Statistics Canada’s 2021 Census, Chauvin had a population of 304 residents living in 143 of its 162 private dwellings, spread across a land area of 2.22 square kilometres. That figure represented a decline of approximately 9.3% from the 335 residents recorded in the 2016 Census, though the 2016 municipal census had put the population slightly higher at 345. The village’s population density in 2021 stood at roughly 136.9 people per square kilometre. Chauvin is also home to a well-known local landmark: Susie the Softball, recognized as the world’s largest softball, making the village a notable stop for travellers passing through the region.
