Edgerton Map

Roughly 35 kilometres east of Wainwright, the small village of Edgerton sits within central Alberta, covering a land area of approximately 2.01 square kilometres. The community takes its name from H. H. Edgerton, an official connected to the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, reflecting the railway history that shaped so many of Alberta’s smaller settlements. With a population density of around 191.5 residents per square kilometre, Edgerton maintains the close-knit character typical of rural Alberta villages.

According to the 2021 federal census, 385 people called Edgerton home, living across 173 of the village’s 197 private dwellings. That figure represents a modest increase from the 384 residents recorded in 2016, which was itself a notable jump from the 317 counted in 2011. A 2017 municipal census put the population at 425, reflecting a six per cent rise from the 401 residents tallied in the 2012 municipal count. Families with school-aged children are served by Edgerton Public School, a single K-12 institution that falls under the Buffalo Trail Regional School Division, one of 20 schools the division oversees across the region.
