Tucked into the prairies of central Alberta, Ribstone sits within the Municipal District of Wainwright No. 61, roughly 65 kilometres southwest of Lloydminster and about 16 kilometres south of Highway 14. Its location places it well away from major urban centres, making it one of the quieter corners of the region.
Ribstone has a long-standing presence on the Alberta landscape, with its earliest settlers arriving by wagon in 1905. For many decades it held hamlet status, but on January 21, 2024, the Municipal District of Wainwright No. 61 repealed that designation, reclassifying Ribstone as a locality. As of the 2007 municipal census conducted by the MD of Wainwright, the community had a population of 30 residents, reflecting its character as a small and close-knit rural settlement.
