Nestled along the banks of the Pembina River and situated on Highway 43, Sangudo lies roughly 99 kilometres northwest of Edmonton within Lac Ste. Anne County. The hamlet serves travellers and locals along one of Alberta’s busiest northern highways, with tourism from passing traffic forming one of its key economic pillars alongside oil production and cattle ranching. Sangudo was previously incorporated as a village on April 12, 1937, but after decades of village status, it dissolved and reverted to hamlet standing effective September 16, 2007.

According to the 2021 Census conducted by Statistics Canada, Sangudo had a population of 298 residents living in 153 of its 178 private dwellings, a very slight decrease from 299 people recorded in 2016 and a more notable drop from 320 residents counted in 2011. The hamlet covers a land area of approximately 2.8 square kilometres, giving it a population density of around 106.4 people per square kilometre. Visitors to Sangudo can spot a sundial tourist monument clearly visible from Highway 43, and outdoor enthusiasts enjoy camping along the river at Deep Creek Campground. The hamlet was also once home to the Sangudo Speedway, a quarter-mile high-banked dirt oval track that has since closed. Among its notable former residents is Gene Zwozdesky, a teacher, musician, and politician who served as the 12th Speaker of the Alberta Legislative Assembly.
